Daily Cleaning for Oral Piercings:
Body piercing need to be cleaned two times daily, every day, for the entire initial healing time. Do not clean more than three times daily as this can irritate your piercing and possibly delay your healing.

1. Before cleanings, wash hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and warm water. Never touch healing piercing with dirty hands. This is vital for avoiding infections.
2. Prepare the area for cleansing by rinsing or soaking with warm water and be sure to remove any stubborn crust using a cotton swab and warm water. Never pick with your fingernails!
3. Apply a small amount of cleaning solution to the area such as SATIN or Saline Solution. Cleanse the area and jewellery, then gently rotate the jewellery back and forth to work the solution inside your piercing.
4. Rinse the area thoroughly under running water, while rotating the jewellery back and forth to completely remove any remaining cleansing solution from inside your piercing.
5. Gently pat dry with a clean tissue product.

Daily Cleaning for Oral Piercings:
1. Rinse mouth with alcohol-free mouthwash, TECH 2000, for 30 seconds, no less than three times and no more than 10 times each day. After eating, drinking anything other than water and smoking are the most important times. An excellent natural alternative to mouthwash, that will also promote healing, is sea salt water. (see below)

Things to Avoid for Body Piercings:
- Wash your hands prior to contact near the healing area.
- Leave the piercing alone except when you are cleaning it.
- Leave the starter jewellery in during the entire healing time suggested by the piercer.
- Check twice daily with clean hands to make sure the balls are screwed on tight on threaded jewellery such as barbells.
- An over-the-counter, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, etc. taken according to package instructions can help reduce discomfort.
- If you like your piercing, leave it in at all times. Even well healed piercing can close or shrink in minutes.
- Wear clean, comfortable, breathable fabric near the pierced area to avoid irritation.

Things to Avoid for Oral Piercings:
- Try to go slowly when you eat and take small bites when you are getting used to your new jewellery. Cold food and beverages feel great and can help diminish swelling. Drink plenty of fluids such as bottled water and suck on lots of ice to help relieve discomfort.

Salt Water Soaks:
Mild sea salt water soaks are strongly suggested at least once a day to accelerate healing and increase your comfort. This may also help to reduce irritation in the area. Salt water soaks help to stimulate air and blood circulation which facilitates healing. You can do a brief salt water soak before your daily cleanings as well as several times a day.

1. Dissolve a pinch (Ό teaspoon) of sea salt or non-iodized table salt into one cup (8 oz.) of warm water or hot water in a clean cup. A stronger solution is not better as you can burn your piercing with too much salt.
2. Invert the solution over the area to form a vacuum and soak directly for a few minutes. For certain piercing it is easier to use a clean cotton ball or gauze pad soaked in the salt water.
3. Follow with a clear water rinse then pat dry with dry tissue products.

What is Normal For Piercings:
- Bleeding, bruising, discoloration and/or swelling is not uncommon. Any break in the skin, including a new piercing can bleed or bruise. These are not indications of any complication.
- Some tenderness or discomfort in the area of a new piercing is not unusual. You may feel itching, stinging, burning, aching or other unpleasant sensations off and on for several days or longer.
- Secretion of a fluid which contains plasma, lymph and dead cells is perfectly normal. It is fairly liquid, whitish-yellow in colour and forms a crust on the jewellery at the opening of a piercing. This is not pus, but indicates a healing piercing.
- Piercings may have a tendency to have a series of “ups and downs” during healing by seeming healed and then regressing. Try to be patient, and do keep cleaning during the entire healing time, even if the piercing seems healed sooner.

What is Normal for Oral Piercings:
- Plaque may form on tongue jewellery, commonly on the bottom ball and post. Scrub your barbell with a soft bristled toothbrush.
- If you are cleaning too often, the top of your tongue will start to turn a white to yellowish colour. Continue to clean your piercing, but reduce the number of times you are cleaning per day.

Things to Avoid for Piercings:
- Do not use alcohol, peroxide or betadine as they are overly strong and can delay your healing.
- Do not apply any ointment such as bactracin, polypro or any antibiotic creams. These prevent oxygen from reaching the piercing and can cause complications.
- Don’t over clean. Cleaning more than 2 times a day is NOT better.
- Avoid oral contact, rough play and contact with any other bodily fluids.
- Avoid submerging your piercing in any water such as pools, lakes, hot tubs or Jacuzzis, etc. Shower rather than bath.

Things to Avoid for Oral Piercings:
- Avoid chewing on gum, tobacco, finger nails, pencils, etc. during healing.
- Reducing smoking or quitting is highly advisable when healing an oral piercing. Smoking increases risks and can lengthen healing time.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages including beer, wine and hard liquor for the first several days. These can cause additional swelling, bleeding and discomfort.
- Avoid aspirin and large amounts of caffeine.
- Refrain from eating spicy, salty, acidic or hot temperature foods and beverages for a few days.
- Do not play with the piercing for the initial healing time beyond the necessary movement for speaking and eating. Undue stress on the piercing can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration and other complications.
- Avoid Listerine or other mouthwash which contains alcohol. It can irritate the area and delay healing.

Daily Tattoo Care:
By following the steps below, you will have the best retention of color and the fastest healing result.

1.Gently  wash your tattoo with Satin or a mild anti-bacterial soap and warm water, rinse,  then pat dry and allow to air dry for 10 minutes.
Wash the tattoo thoroughly but GENTLY with warm water and mild antibacterial soap, The area will be tender, but it is important to remove any dried blood and fluids, excess pigments etc. This is one of the most important steps in the care of your tattoo. When the tattoo has been thoroughly cleaned, gently pat it dry with a clean towel and allow to air dry for 10 minutes.   Do this 3-6 times per day and continue until all scabbing is gone.

2. Apply a light layer of ointment to your tattoo.
After cleaning and allowing your tattoo to air dry for 10 minutes, massage a small amount of ointment into the tattoo. We highly recommend Tattoo Goo, A & D Ointment or Lubriderm Unscented for Sensitive Skin. Gently rub the product in well, ensuring it has all been absorbed. Leave your tattoo barely moist but with no smears of white crθme.  If your clothing sticks to it, or it looks wet, this is too much.   Do this 4-6 times daily until your tattoo is healed (all scabs gone).

The approximate average healing time for tattoos is 7-14 days. Human bodies are highly individual and healing times vary greatly. Your tattoo should not hurt much worse than a sunburn.  Irritation, redness or swelling should be gone within 24 hours. If your tattoo causes more pain than a sunburn or remains swollen or enflamed, please contact our studio immediately,

What to Avoid:
* Avoid irritation from clothing - wear clean, comfortable, breathable fabric. Air is good for your tattoo! Allow your tattoo to breath as much as possible during your healing.
* NEVER use ointments such as Vaseline, aloe, or Vitamin E on your tattoo… these will impede the healing process and may lead to color loss in your tattoo. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR TATTOO THAT MAKES IT STING OR BURN.
* Do not pick your scabs or "onion peel skin". Most tattoos heal in 7 - 14 days. If a scab should form, do not pick or scratch at it or "help it" to fall off. If you do pick at the scab you will suffer from color loss. After your initial flake falls off, some people experience a secondary flake. The itchiness that accompanies a healing tattoo is normal. Moisturizing the tattoo will generally ease the itching as will slapping or patting the tattoo.
* Avoid the sun and tanning beds. Your new tattoo has no sun blocking capabilities and can burn in as little as 5 minutes when in direct sun. A sunburn on a new tattoo will result in excessive scabbing, prolonged healing time, color loss and pain. After your tattoo is fully healed use a high SPF sunblock lotion on it to keep colors from fading over time.
* Do not soak or scrub your new tattoo. Avoid long showers, long soaks in bathtubs, hot tubs and pools while your tattoo is healing. Soaking your new tattoo will cause your scabs to soften and come off early resulting in loss of color. Showering is okay but try not to let the shower directly hit the tattoo.

Touch Ups:

Our company is committed to excellence in all services that we provide, but it is important for clients to have realistic expectations as to what a healed tattoo should look like. We see a lot of images of healed tattoos on TV, in magazines and on the internet which leads to what we believe is an unrealistic expectation of what a tattoo should look like. People tend to forget, or maybe not even know, that most of these images are edited and/or digitally retouched or enhanced.

When considering a tattoo, please remember that we cannot perfectly replicate an image that has been computer generated and printed on a laser printer! We’re good, but nobody is that good at transferring an image onto skin with needles, particularly if the images is lettering that’s one inch tall! So while our expectations of our own work is extremely high, please be reasonable with your own expectations of what a tattoo will look like and know that no tattoo is ever perfect, it's impossible.

That said, we take pride in our work and want any tattoo that leaves our studio to be the best that it can be and of course, we want you to be happy with your tattoo as well, so please come into the studio for your tattoo artist to see your healed tattoo

GUIDELINES:

It is your responsibility to follow all aftercare recommendations provided.

If you have problems or questions during healing, it’s your responsibility to call or come into the studio as soon as possible, the sooner we can help with a problem, the less likely you are to need additional work.

Large tattoos almost always require a second session to deepen colors, create consistency over large areas including line work, build and clarify details and highlighting. (this always applies to solid black work on any scale)

Tattoos on hands or feet, regardless of size, typically require a second session due to the difficulty in healing these areas as well as the rapid rate of exfoliation.

If you are unsure whether your tattoo requires additional work please come into the studio so that we can evaluate your healed tattoo.
