Stylist
Andi S.

How long have you been a stylist?

4.5 years

How did you get into your chosen field?

I decided that I wanted to be a hair stylist when I was about 9 years old.  My cousin was going to hair school and I was super jealous of her so I decided that I was going to do that too.  Shortly after that I acquired a hairdressing school textbook and proceeded to read it cover to cover until I had every haircut memorized.  I practiced styling my friends' hair, my dolls, parents and even my dog's hair... but for the record I only cut my doll's hair once and I cried so hard after my mom told me that it didn't grow back... I never did it again.

Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do plain and simple because I love it and I love meeting people.  I love trying new things and the challenge of it.  Best of all I love making people happy and excited about how good they can look.

What do you think you bring to the table? Skills, personality, etc.

Being newer to the industry I think I bring a young fresh approach to hair.  I like keeping up with new trends and styles and I'm always up for a challenge.

What are your favorite things about your job?

Working with my best friends and awesome clients!

Relevant work experience? Education?

I attended Utopia Academy of Hair Design and in my first year as a licensed stylist I placed 2nd in BC's New Talent Cutting competition.  In 2009, I placed 3rd in the Professional Women's Cut & Style.  I've assisted Goldwell Master Stylists during major stage events as well as competed in Goldwell's International Trend Zoom competition. I also continually attend advanced coloring & cutting technique classes.

Why is Renaissance a good fit for you?

Because I'm a creative person and everyone else here is as well... and cuz I'm super cool!

Future plans?

To do hair but also to educate and compete.  My dream is to be a well-known name in the competition world.

How long have you been a stylist?

5 years

How did you get into your chosen field?

I kind of fell into it.  I'd been cutting my family members' hair since the age of 16 and my parents encouraged me to get into hair school as a last ditch effort to have a career.

Why do you do what you do?

I love the creativity behind it and knowing that I made someone's day just a little bit better by giving them an awesome new cut or color.

What do you bring to the table? Skills, personality, etc.

I definitely have an edgier style to my work.  I focus on alot of texture and can give you soft and pretty to something with a rock n' roll vibe as well as specializing in weave extensions... and I do it all with a huge smile on my face!

What are your favorite things about your job?

Working with a great team of people who have become like a second family to me and having the artistic freedom to create something new and different every day.

Relevant work experience? Education?

I studied at Utopia Academy of Hair Design here in Abbotsford and started my career at Toni & Guy Hairdressing in Vancouver, followed by advanced training in Europe before settling in here at Renaissance.  I've done alot of photoshoot work, most recently competing in the Goldwell Trend Zoom competition and I continually attend advanced cutting and color classes to keep up to date on all the latest trends.

Why is Renaissance a good fit for you?

I can say without a doubt that everyone here is on the same page and commits to providing an amazing experience to every person that walks through our door.

 Future plans?

WORLD DOMINATION... one hair at a time! Muhahahaha!!!

Body Piercer
Mike B.

How long have you been a piercer?

 2 + years

How did you get into your chosen field?

I've worked many jobs in my life but had always been interested in piercing and tattooing(I got my first tat at the age of 16).  I was graciously brought into the piercing/tattoo industry and love piercing and seeing how happy clients get over our work.  Piercing is what got my foot in the door and i am working toward branching into tattooing.

Why do you do what you do?

It's very satisfying to see how excited my client's get when they get a new piercing and how it can change their look, which in turn comes back to you as a person and makes you want to be even better.

What do you think you bring to the table? Skills, personality, etc.

I bring a level of professionalism that in turn makes for a relaxed atmosphere, as it can be intimidating to get a piercing.  I try to be as honest with people as possible about their piercings/piercing concerns because people remember honesty, even if it's something that they don't want to hear.

What are your favorite things about your job?

I love the atmosphere of my job.  I love that there is no end to the things we can learn here and that we can always be better than we are.  I get to work with my friends and I get treated as a person and not just as an employee.

Relevant work experience? Education?

Bachelors degree in biology, first aid courses

Why is Renaissance a good fit for you?

It provides me with a place to show my talents and skills and also expand into other aspects of the industry at the same time.

Future plans?

To hopefully branch into tattooing.

Assistant Manager
Jen V.

How long have you been with Renaissance?

5 years

How did you get into your chosen field?

I started off as a nail technician and after a couple years the aesthetics portion of Renaissance was phased out and I was offered a receptionist position which has now worked into an assistant manager position.

Why do you do what you do?

Because I didn't want to leave my wonderful Renaissance family.  It's the best place to work and we have alot of fun.

What do you think you bring to the table? Skills, personality, etc.

I'm easygoing, lots of energy and I love a challenge.

What are your favorite things about your job?

Working with my friends and the public.  I'd die in a cramped little office by myself.

Relevant work experience? Education?

I've been working in salon environments for the last 7 years.

Why is Renaissance a good fit for you?

It's a positive and fun atmosphere, I am always growing and learning new things, and the rest of the staff is awesome!

Future plans?

Management... hopefully steal Tracy's job!

What are your favorite things about your job?

Everything... well, mostly everthing

Why is Renaissance a good fit for you?

Because it's rad!  The staff are rad, the clients are rad, it's always fun times
